The ECHL Department of Player Safety announced multiple fines and suspensions on Friday following incidents from games played earlier this month. Disciplinary action affected players from Allen, South Carolina, Iowa, and Jacksonville, with penalties issued under league rules governing physical abuse of officials and supplementary discipline.
The league suspended Allen forward Brad Morrison for three games and fined him an undisclosed amount after the game against Rapid City on December 11.
Player Safety ruled that Morrison violated Rule 40.4 after officials assessed him a game misconduct for physical abuse of officials at the end of the second period. The suspension sidelines Morrison for Allen’s road games at Rapid City on December 12 and 13, along with the team’s December 17 matchup against the Tulsa Oilers.
The ECHL suspended South Carolina forward Tanner Edwards for three games following an incident in the game against Orlando on December 10.
The league applied supplementary discipline under Rule 28 for an illegal check to the head at 2:20 of the first period. Edwards will miss South Carolina’s games vs. Greenville (Dec. 12), at Jacksonville (Dec. 13), and vs. Savannah (Dec. 14).
The league fined South Carolina defenseman Nolan Krenzen an undisclosed amount for his actions late in the match up against the Jacksonville Icemen on December 3.
Player Safety issued the fine under Rule 28 – Supplementary Discipline for an incident that occurred at 16:44 of the third period.
The ECHL handed Iowa defenseman Brandon Schultz a two-game suspension and an undisclosed fine after the game against the Kansas City Mavericks on December 10.
The league enforced Rule 28 – Supplementary Discipline for an incident at 11:48 of the second period. Schultz will sit out Iowa’s games against Toledo on December 12 and 13.
The ECHL suspended Jacksonville forward Kolby Johnson for two games and issued an undisclosed fine following the game against the South Carolina Stingrays on December 3.
Player Safety disciplined Johnson under Rule 28 – Supplementary Discipline for actions at 18:50 of the third period. Jacksonville placed Johnson on Bereavement Leave, and he will miss the next two games for which he remains on the active roster.
Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the ECHL and the Professional Hockey Players’ Association, the league directs all collected fines to the PHPA ECHL Player’s Hardship Fund.
