ECHL: Greenboro Gargoyles Bring Back Braden Doyle

Yesterday, the Greensboro Gargoyles announced the return of defenseman Braden Doyle for the upcoming season.

Background

Braden Doyle spent four years at the collegiate level, spending time at Boston University, Northeastern University, and finally Niagara University. Prior to his time in college, he was drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the sixth round of the 2019 NHL Draft.

Last season was Doyle’s first season as a professional. Doyle had one goal and seven assists in 32 ECHL games. He also earned a call-up to the AHL, where he was kept off the scoresheet in 10 games. Doyle also earned an opportunity to attend the Carolina Hurricanes‘ prospect camp in 2025.

Impact

This is a major returning piece for Greensboro. Doyle and Borshyov are almost certain to be the top pairing next season. That will be a defensive pairing that can lock down nearly any forward line in the league. Doyle is a two-way defenseman, and that will pair incredibly well with Borshyov, who is a top-tier defensive defenseman.

With both players back in Greensboro, the defense is off to a great start. Doyle spent some time in the AHL last season, which goes to show just how talented he is. With eight points in 32 games, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him put up 20 points over a full season.

Greensboro currently has four forwards under contract for next season in addition to the two defensemen mentioned above. With the season creeping up, business is beginning to get done. Fans can expect another signing to be announced in the near future.
