Earlier this year, the ECHL announced that Greensboro would become the 30th team in the league, with play beginning next October. Today, we received more exciting news as they revealed the team’s name and introduced some notable co-owners.
Earlier today, Spittin’ Chiclets announced on their podcast that they will be co-owners of the Greensboro Gargoyles. Zawyer Sports, which was previously announced as an owner when Greensboro’s addition to the league was confirmed, now has a role in three of the last four ECHL expansion teams. Spittin’ Chiclets is already involved in the ECHL to some extent, most notably hosting a Pink Whitney Night with the Orlando Solar Bears. This event will likely be moved to Greensboro now that they are part of the ownership group, but more details may come at a later date. The group will include Paul Bissonnette, Ryan Whitney, Rear Admiral, and Keith Yandle. Bissonnette has mentioned that he plans to be involved in all aspects of the organization.
There’s a lot to like about the team name and logo. It’s something different and a bit unexpected, which aligns with how quickly everything came together. The Greensboro Gargoyles will sport purple, silver and black as their main colors, adding a unique flair to the league. The team has already released some merchandise, which is available for purchase on their website. However, they have yet to reveal their jerseys, leaving fans eagerly anticipating the full unveiling of the team’s look.
More details about the @GSOGargoyles name and logo: Primary colors are Gargoyle Grape, Greensboro Gold & Midnight. The name and logo is portrayed as a stone monster that watches over and protects the North Carolina city.
