Cincinnati Cyclones captain Justin Vaive is hanging up the skates after 16 seasons of pro hockey. In his last pro season, he had 12 goals and nine assists for 21 points in 70 games.

The Buffalo, NY, native spent 11 of his 13 seasons with the Cyclones and served as a captain for seven of those seasons. Over the course of 541 games with Cincinnati, he had 165 goals and 130 assists for 295 points. In 49 playoff games with the Cyclones, he had 13 goals and 13 assists for 26 points. Vaive currently holds the team record for goals, points, power-play goals (59), and game-winning goals (22).
“Cincinnati has always been my home and it always will be. I met my wife here, our daughter was born here, I have so much love for this special place and it’s only fitting that I announce my retirement with the organization that’s given me so much,” said Cyclones forward Justin Vaive. “I just want to thank the organization from ownership to support staff, my teammates, and the fans for making these last 16 seasons a journey to remember.”

During the 2013-14 season, he had 10 goals and eight assists for 18 points in 13 games with the Greenville Road Warriors, while adding six goals and five assists for 11 points in 13 playoff games with the Road Warriors. Vaive also spent a season with the Fort Wayne Komets, where he had 10 goals and eight assists for 18 points in 47 games. He would add four goals and two assists for six points in 13 playoff games to help the Komets win the Kelly Cup in 2021.
Vaive also spent parts of seven seasons in the AHL while playing for five different teams. Over the course of 280 AHL games, he had 31 goals and 36 assists for 67 points. He had one assist in eight games during the 2015 Calder Cup Playoffs with the Hartford Wolf Pack.
