The Trois-Rivières Lions have re-signed forward Mathias Laferrière for the 2026-27 season. Laferrière, 25, began his season in Slovakia, where he put up nine goals and six assists for 15 points in 30 games with HK Spisska Nova Ves and HKM Zvolen. In 30 games with the Lions, he had eight goals and nine assists for 17 points. He becomes the second player signed to an ECHL contract for the 2026-27 season, joining Anthony Beauregard. The Lions have started strong with two experienced forwards re-signed for next season.

The Montreal, Quebec, native has spent the majority of his career with the Springfield Thunderbirds after being drafted by the St. Louis Blues in the sixth round of the 2018 NHL Draft. Over the course of his four seasons with the Thunderbirds, Laferrière had 21 goals and 49 assists for 70 points in 207 games, while also seeing action in two games during the 2023 Calder Cup Playoffs. Before heading overseas, he played in 22 games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, where he had three goals and five assists for eight points, he also saw action in one game during the 2025 Calder Cup Playoffs with the Penguins. Aside from his time with the Lions, Laferrière had an assist in three games with the Worcester Railers during the 2021-22 season.
