The ECHL has suspended Tulsa Oilers defenseman Roman Kinal one game and fined an undisclosed amount for his actions in Saturday Night’s game vs Allen Americans. At the 18:40 mark of the first period, Kinal would head butt Allen’s Dany Katic and be assessed a major penalty along with a game misconduct for head-butting. In 21 games this season with the Oilers, he has a goal and four assists. He has also played in three AHL games with the San Diego Gulls. He will miss today’s game vs Allen.

The Waterford, Michigan, native is in his fourth pro season, having split his time in the AHL and ECHL. During his time in the ECHL, he’s put up nine goals and 23 assists for 31 points in 83 games while playing with the Wichita Thunder and Tulsa Oilers. He has two assists in six career Kelly Cup Playoff games. At the AHL level, he has a goal and two assists for three points in 67 games with the San Jose Barracuda and San Diego Gulls.

Junior and NCAA Stats

Prior to going pro, Kinal spent two years playing junior hockey, which included a year in the NAHL and USHL. In 53 games in the NAHL with the Wichita Falls Wildcats, he put up three goals and nine assists for 12 points. At the USHL level, he had a goal and seven assists in 51 games with the Dubuque Fighting Saints. He would add an assist in five playoff games with the Saints. Kinal then played four years of NCAA at UConn. In 121 games with the Huskies, he had seven goals and 20 assists for 27 points.
