The Tahoe Knight Monsters have signed forward Alex Weiermair to an ECHL contract for the remainder of the 2025-26 season. Weiermair, 20, had 37 goals and 56 assists for 93 points in 66 games last season in the WHL with the Portland Winterhawks and led the team in all offensive categories. In four WHL playoff games, he had four assists. He was drafted by the Vegas Golden Knights in the sixth round of the 2025 NHL Draft. The 6’1, 207lb forward will begin next season on an NHL entry-level contract with the Golden Knights. This will also allow Weiremair to get some playing time in the Vegas organization before officially joining the team on the entry-level deal next season.
Prior to going pro, the Los Angeles, California, native played two seasons in the USHL with the USA Hockey National Team Development Program. In 58 games in the USHL, he had 13 goals and eight assists for 21 points. Weirermair would then head to the NCAA, where he spent parts of two seasons at the University of Denver. During his time with the Pioneers, he had three goals and five assists for eight points in 33 games. The Pioneers would take home the National Championship in 2024.
In December 2024, Weiremair would head to the WHL, where he spent the next year and a half with the Portland Winterhawks. During his time with the Winterhawks, he put up 58 goals and 81 assists for 139 points in 107 games. He would add 10 goals and 17 assists for 27 points in 22 WHL Playoff games.
