The Wichita Thunder have announced that they have signed forward Danny Weight for the 2025-26 season. Weight, 24, had five goals and seven assists for 12 points in 34 games with American International University in his final season of eligibility. He becomes the 13th forward and 22nd player to sign with Wichita for the 2025-26 season.

The Edmonton, Alberta, native has spent the last five seasons in the NCAA. He began his collegiate career putting up a goal and an assist for two points in 19 games at Boston College. Weight would then spend the next three seasons at Colorado College. In 60 games with the Tigers, he put up three goals and 14 assists for 17 points. Prior to playing in the NCAA, Weight spent parts of two seasons in the US National Development Program. His final season in juniors came in the BCHL with the Penticton Vees. During his time with the Vees, he put up 25 goals and 35 assists for 60 points in 58 games. He would add four goals and four assists for eight points in five BCHL playoff games.

Weight Family Ties

Danny Weight will now join his father in the San Jose Sharks organization, as Doug Weight has spent the last three seasons as a senior advisor with the Sharks. Prior to joining the Sharks, he spent eight seasons with the New York Islanders, where he spent six seasons as the Assistant GM/Head Coach before spending a year as head coach of the Islanders, and would finish his time in New York as a Senior Advisor for the team.

Prior to coaching, Doug Weight spent 19 seasons in the NHL with the New York Rangers, Edmonton Oilers, St. Louis Blues, Carolina Hurricanes, Anaheim Ducks, and New York Islanders. In 1,238 games in the NHL, he put up 278 goals and 755 assists for 1,033 points. He would add 23 goals and 49 assists for 72 points in 97 Stanley Cup Playoff games. Weight would win a Stanley Cup with the Blues in 2006, and then in his final season as a player, he would win the King Clancy Award as a member of the Islanders. In 2014, he was named to the United States Hockey Hall of Fame.
