History has been made today. One half of one of the most skilled duo of teammates in today’s game, if not ever, has hit a milestone. In tonight’s game versus the Pittsburgh Penguins legendary German great Leon Draisaitl notched his 1000th career point. Let’s discuss the greatness of this feat by Leon.

When you think about it, there hasn’t been too many teammates, combined with the fact that it was right around their respective beginning in pro hockey together, Leon Draisaitl (2014-15) and Connor McDavid (2015-16), that teammates have each eclipsed the 1000-point mark.
Draisaitl becomes just the 51st player all time to score 1000 points with one franchise. However, by our count, only 15 pairs of teammates achieved the feat, doing it while playing a good bulk of their careers’ together. Say, at least five years of overlap, or so, but likely more. Many of those include Stanley Cup dynasties in them. So, it is likely a sign of the best is still yet to come, amazingly enough.
However, only Wayne Gretzky and Jari Kurri, among those teammates who played a long time together, have both totaled over 1000 points in fewer combined games than Draisaitl and McDavid. That’s not in terms of best point-per-game, just that they each recorded 1000 points. Now, if we consider the best point-per-games of those who scored 1000 points with one franchise, let’s check out those stats.
Draisaitl would be 15th at 1.214. Any way you slice it, very impressive. All time, overall he achieved the feat of 1000 points in the 21st fewest games. However, he is the fourth fastest among active NHLers (McDavid, along with Nikita Kucherov and Sidney Crosby).
For the Oilers, this is still more about the team. They want to win, and win that ultimate prize. They have begun to turn it around in 2025-26. Now, with the acquisition of Tristan Jarry in net , you know general manager Stan Bowman is willing to play ball. McDavid and Draisaitl are hoping the team comes together, like they know they can. In any case, Draisaitl has been fun watching, and we can only hope that the best is yet to come.
