The Edmonton Oilers will play the biggest game of their season tonight in Game 6 against the Florida Panthers. Win, and they force a Game 7 in Edmonton. Lose, and the Panthers will win their second consecutive Stanley Cup.

Here are the Oilers’ line combinations for the critical game:

Game 6 lines takeaways

The biggest news right off the bat is that Stuart Skinner will be getting the nod between the pipes for the Oilers. It’s the right call as he has the highest ceiling, and has been great ever since returning to the starter’s crease. Calvin Pickard has held his own, but at the end of the day the Oilers live and die with Skinner. It’s his time to shine and he needs to have a great showing.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins was absent from practice once again, which isn’t unexpected since we know he’s nursing an injury. However, with Max Jones on the top line, all signs point to Nugent-Hopkins dressing for Game 6 on the top line – Jones is merely there as a placeholder.

Jeff Skinner and Kasperi Kapanen are in the lineup tonight, in favour of Victor Arvidsson.

The defence pairings are completely rejigged as well. Troy Stecher is out of the lineup, and Jake Walman and John Klingberg return on the third pair.
