Edmonton Oilers Post-Game Thoughts

Saturday night, on Hockey Night In Canada, the Edmonton Oilers capped off a three game homestand against the Chicago Blackhawks. They were looking for a bounce-back game after letting Thursday night’s game against the New York Rangers slip away from them in the third period.

They head into first intermission tied 0-0: Leon Draisaitl nearly opened the scoring late in the period with a PP goal, but the clock ran out JUST before the puck crossed the goal line. Vasily Podkolzin also had a chance to score on a penalty shot at 10:57, but he missed it.

The Oilers have a 2-1 lead heading into second intermission: Connor McDavid took a hit when skating the puck to the offensive zone, his team was able to complete passes leading to Draisaitl’s PP goal. Tyler Bertuzzi and Jack Roslovic were parked in front of their opposing nets to also score PP goals.

The Oilers and Blackhawks headed to Overtime tied 2-2: Andre Burakovsky’s tying goal was similar to the second and third goals of the game, but following up a rebound shot was the difference. Chicago heavily outshot Edmonton in the third period after being heavily outshot in the first period and being even in the second period.

The Oilers beat the Blackhawks in Overtime: After heavy criticism following Thursday night’s game, Evan Bouchard scored the game-winning goal in the extra 5 minutes. His team finished the three game homestand with a 2-0-1 record.
