Edmonton Oilers prospect roundup: Oilers and their organizational steals
Sergei Belski-Imagn Images

The Edmonton Oilers have a knack for picking some late bloomers, and this week is all the evidence one needs of that. From the WHL, to the NCAA, Oilers mid-late round picks continue to thrive in their seasons. This bodes well for the future depth of the Oilers organization.

Theres a lot to unpack this week, let’s take a look.

Welcome to the TOR Edmonton Oilers prospect update. Each week, we’ll take a dive into how the Oilers’ prospects have done in their respective leagues to go along with a feature one one standout prospect in Edmonton’s system. We have defined a prospect as a skater who has played fewer than 65 NHL games, and is born 2001 or earlier.

The return: Roby Jarventie, forward, Bakersfield Condors

It’s crazy what happens when an injury riddled Roby Jarventie can finally play some games. Turns out when he gets the chance, he becomes an high danger fast paced offensive weapon. Jarventie will likely be the classic late bloomer due to all of his lost development time in prior seasons.

Considering the Ottawa Senators-draftee has only appeared in six regular season games in the last two seasons combined, and even signed a proactive deal in Finland prior to his NHL extension, expectations were low entering this season.

The good thing for Oilers fans: he has real NHL level potential as a skating and shooting fueled secondary scorer. He plays the classic game of a sniper, and is highlighted by high end skating, NHL-ready shooting, and capable enough finish/puck handling to make him a threat.

The Finnish forward is the largest asset as a rush based finisher who thrives the most in transition, and expect him to continue playing this game in Bakersfield and with the Oilers. He has improved his compete level, but expect that and his defensive senses to take another step forward this season.

Edmonton Oilers prospect updates

AHL

  • The Bakersfield Condors fifth in the AHL’s Pacific Division with a record of 3–2–0.
  • The Condors split a pair of games with the Roadrunners, falling 5–1 on October 24, and then collecting a 3–1 win the following night. They then played the Colorado Eagles on the 28th, where they were defeated in a close 5–4 loss.
  • Roby Jarventie continues to lead the Oilers farm team among NHL signed prospects with three goals, and three assists across four games. He looks to be recovering from his injury well.
  • Both goaltending veterans Matt Tomkins and Connor Ingram have appeared in parts of three games each, and are still looking to find their footing with their new club.

ECHL

  • Fort Wayne played only one game this past week, a 3–1 loss to Cincinnati on the October 24.
  • The Komets are now 2–1–0 on the season. This record has them at third in the Western Conference’s central division.
  • The Oilers have six total prospects assigned to the team for the season so far.
  • Fort Wayne looks to be rolling with a tandem of goaltenders Nathaniel Day and Samuel Jonsson. Undrafted Oilers signee Connor Ungar continues to recover from his torn meniscus injury he suffered last season.

Europe

  • 2025 sixth rounder Daniel Salonen appeared in one game this past weekend, and stopped 18 of 21 shots. The Finn has been positionally solid, he looks to gain more momentum as the season goes on in the Liiga.
  • 2024 sixth rounder, Swedish defender Albin Sundin built some momentum this week with an assist and a plus two rating in his combined two games this last week. His ice-time has slowly started to decrease as the season has gone on, with his October 28 appearance against Färjestad BK being around half of his normal TOI at the start of the season.
  • The Plzen product, Petr Hauser, is making the most of his limited opportunities in Czechia, with his fourth line role with HC Vitkovice in three games this past week. If he shows more growth in his skating, and physicality he could be a dark horse for an NHL contract.

NCAA

  • The Oilers seventh rounder, Bauer Berry scored the first goal of his college career in his second of two games against Providence College on the October 25. The physically imposing defender looks to be a stable third pairing defender for the University of St. Thomas.
  • Michigan had a pair of games against Western Michigan, where both Asher Barnett and Aiden Park played in one of their first rivalry games of their college careers.
  • Oilers top defensive prospect, Paul Fischer, played games on October 24 and 25 against Robert Morris University. In his outing on the 25th, he played a whooping 25:05, talk about him being a workhorse.
  • 192nd overall pick of the 2024 NHL draft, Dalyn Wakely, continues to impress at the NCAA level. His more complete two way game is showing some playmaking as well. He played a pair of games against Mercyhurst University on October 24 and 25, leaving with a pair of assists in the latter.

WHL

  • Tommy Lafreniere continues to build momentum in his offensive game, as he enters and leaves the week on a point streak, with 11 points across seven games. This bodes well for his development as his offensive instincts and playmaking were his main drawbacks at the 2025 draft.
  • The Oilers have spotted some steals in the WHL. David Lewandowski had a lower production week, collecting a single assist across a combined three games, but his sustained growth in physicality and compete even in hard moments stands as a bright spot for the young German.

Russia

  • Maxim Beryozkin had a pair of stronger games this season on the October 22 and 28. He couldn’t find the scoresheet, but looks to continue to play his game of a typical power-forward with a bit of playmaker. Expect for him to continue to rebound this season.
