The Edmonton Oilers pulled ahead in the Western Conference Final with a 4-1 win over the Dallas Stars on Tuesday, but forward Zach Hyman’s early exit raised immediate concern.
The team’s leading goal scorer this postseason was ruled out for the remainder of Game 4 after an awkward collision just minutes in.
The incident occurred near the boards with Hyman skating toward the center of the ice in the first period when he got tangled with Mason Marchment.
Hyman skated off the ice, favoring his right arm, and did not return. The Oilers later confirmed he would not come back to the game, and the franchise has yet to provide an update on his status for Game 5.
“It looks pretty severe to me and I would be suprised if he would come back.”

During the first intermission on Sportsnet's broadcast, Elliotte Friedman explained the severity of what may have happened while awaiting an official update.
"When a guy goes right to the dressing room like this, you're worried about it," Friedman said. "Anybody who's ever had their arm bent back like that, you worry about shoulder, maybe wrist. So hopefully it's not as bad as it looked."
"But when a player like him goes charging off the ice like that, you know that they don't like what they feel in the moment."
Hyman’s absence didn’t stop the Oilers from taking control of the game. Leon Draisaitl opened the scoring, Corey Perry scored the game-winning goal, and Kasperi Kapanen and Adam Henrique added third-period empty-net goals to seal the victory.
Stuart Skinner made 28 saves and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins assisted on two goals as Edmonton moved within one win of the Stanley Cup Final.
Game 5 between the Oilers and Stars is scheduled for Thursday night at American Airlines Center, with Dallas on the brink of elimination.
