The Vancouver Canucks continue to explore the trade market as they try to rebuild, or at least retool, their roster going forward.
That said, it's emerged that any roster changes are expected to unfold gradually rather than suddenly, with no imminent deal in sight.
According to Elliotte Friedman, sharing an update during Sportsnet’s "Saturday Headlines" segment, the Canucks are still in the listening phase while gauging the market.
Friedman emphasized that while there’s widespread interest in some of their veterans — he named the Minnesota Wild, Boston Bruins and Philadelphia Flyers as potential trade partners — the Canucks are not rushing into anything.

“I was told today, it doesn’t look like it’s going to be fast,” Friedman said. “There’s nothing imminent in Vancouver. But I think there are some teams who are very interested. Teams like Minnesota, Boston, potentially Philadelphia (and) others.”
The Canucks appear to be waiting out the market and prioritizing landing long-term value over quick fixes and lower-impact moves through rushed trades.
“They are more than comfortable to take their time, just see what the market is and wait if they have to,” Friedman said. “And again, the goal is to get younger.”
Kiefer Sherwood, who has 12 goals and four assists in 26 games, is viewed as a player who could move quickly due to his strong start and expiring deal. Team captain Quinn Hughes, on the other hand, is not part of any trade talks and remains off-limits for now.
Friedman was the first to report on Monday that Vancouver had made nearly everybody, except for Hughes, available.
“According to several sources, the Vancouver Canucks have let it be known that — in an effort to get younger — they are willing to listen to offers on ‘veteran players,’” Friedman wrote. “(But) they’ve made it clear (trading Hughes) is not their priority right now.”
Vancouver has the third-worst record (10–13–3) in the Western Conference and will next face the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday at 9:00 p.m. ET.
