A few minutes before the game, it was announced that David Savard and Patrik Laine would have to withdraw from the match against the Chicago Blackhawks.
This forced Martin St-Louis to turn to Michael Pezzetta to replace Laine.
During the post-game press conference, Pezzetta was visibly emotional.
Caught between the sadness of being overlooked for so long and the joy of finally getting to play in a game, the number 55 of the Canadiens delivered a heartfelt press conference.
"Mentally, it was the most difficult period. It was hard to stay focused. But the guys were so supportive."Michael Pezzetta
This once again speaks volumes about the great atmosphere in the Habs locker room.
Pezzetta hadn't played since October 27-imagine that.
We're talking about 28 consecutive games of being constantly sidelined and left out of the lineup.
It's incredibly tough for an athlete and a professional, especially for someone as passionate as Pezzetta.
"It was just nice to be back with the guys. I was just excited to play. [...] I felt good. Honestly, I felt better than anticipated."Michael Pezzetta
Pezzetta ended the game with three shots on goal and three hits in less than six minutes of ice time.
