Eric Staal had a long and successful career in the NHL, and now, it appears he's already landed a high profile job in the Buffalo Sabres front office.

Between 2003 and 2023, Eric Stal was one of the most reliable and consistent players in the NHL, winning the Stanley Cup over an incredible career with Carolina before ending his career playing for New York, Minnesota, Buffalo, Montreal and eventually Florida.

He retired after the 2022/23 campaign, ending his career with 1,063 points over 1,365 games played, but now with his career over, many were wondering what path we'd see from this Staal brother.

Now, that has officially been revealed, as the 40-year old has officially been revealed as the new special assistant to the General Manager of the struggling Buffalo Sabres, who head into 2025/26 with another chance to end their lengthy Stanley Cup Playoffs drought.

After spending so many years in Carolina, to the point where his number was retired, many naturally assumed that Staal would end up with the Hurricanes in some capacity whether it be in the front office or behind the bench, but now he's chosen a different path.

It's unclear at this point what responsibilities Staal will have in his role as special assistant to the GM, but with 20 years of experience at the NHL level, including Stanley Cup winning experience, he'll be invaluable for this front office.

Ultimately though, being in the front office in Buffalo isn't going to be easy, as this is a team that continues to struggle as they look to build their young core, but with some great pieces in place and now Staal joining the front office, optimism is high that this team can turn things around soon.
