Edmonton Oilers fans who cheer for the Toronto Blue Jays got at least some good news Saturday night, as Evan Bouchard’s overtime goal would secure them a win over the Chicago Blackhawks.
While the Blue Jays would lose Game 7 of the World Series to the L.A. Dodgers in the 11th inning, the Oilers’ extra innings saw them come out on top.
Let’s dive into the highlights.
The Oilers’ best chance to get on the board came in the first period, when Connor Bedard hooked Vasily Podkolzin on a breakaway chance. While Podkolzin would crash into Blackhawks netminder Spencer Knight, the referees would rule a penalty shot in Edmonton’s favour, though Podkolzin couldn’t capitalize.

And while Draisaitl appeared to score a power play in the final second of that first frame, the puck would cross the line right after the clock hit double zeros. He would make up for it 54 seconds into the second frame, firing a one-timer from his office.
NO GOAL ❌
Leon Draisaitl scores just as time expires in the first period; however, the goal did not count.

Chicago would have a power play of their own eight and a half minutes into the second, where Connor Bedard fed Tyler Bertuzzi at the side of the net, knocking a puck in.

Elevated into the top-six alongside Draisaitl and Podkolzin in recent games, Jack Roslovic was also lifted to the top power play unit Saturday. He made the most of it, deflecting home a McDavid pass.

Edmonton’s lead was carried into the third period, until Andre Burakovsky tied it up just over three minutes into the frame.

With the game in overtime, Bouchard would ice it. Draisaitl took a McDavid pass circling to the top of the zone and to the left of Knight, allowing Bouchard to drift down into the slot. A backhand pass came his way, and while his first shot was blocked, he would take a second whack that would beat Knight.
We've heard it many times before: Evan Bouchard wins it in overtime.
