The Edmonton Oilers took game one of the Stanley Cup Finals, and after the fact, Oilers forward Evander Kane took shots at Florida Panthers star Matthew Tkachuk.

Following an outstanding overtime game one victory over the Florida Panthers, the Edmonton Oilers inched closer to the ever elusive Stanley Cup. For most players on the Oilers, winning the Stanley Cup this year would be the first time in their career that they had won the trophy, and after coming so close last year, this group is determined not to allow history to repeat itself.

Standing in their way, however, is the Florida Panthers, one of the grittiest teams in recent NHL memory. With players like Sam Bennett, Aaron Ekblad, Brad Marchand, Aleksander Barkov, and Matthew Tkachuk, the Panthers are loaded with talent that can not only score at will but also beat down on their opponents, a strategy crucial for a best-of-seven-game series.

Tkachuk is known as one of the few and arguably best power-forward in the modern-day NHL landscape. While he can score over 100 points in any given season, Tkachuk can also put up 100 penalty minutes, a feat which he has accomplished twice in his career.

When playing against a player who can impact the game in these two facets, teams often need to adjust their strategy to gameplan for the abilities of Tkachuk. However, it does not seem like the Oilers will be doing that, as Edmonton Oilers veteran forward Evander Kane recently took shots at Tkachuk, claiming he was less of a factor than he is made out to be.

"Just like any other player. Just likes to talk a bit more." - Evander Kane on Matthew Tkachuk

While Kane is certainly downplaying the impact Tkachuk has, he is simultaneously trying to get into the head of the Panthers star. If this works in Kane's favor, it could lead to Tkachuk taking an untimely penalty, which could put his team on the back foot.

Regardless, the Oilers are now only three wins away from the Stanley Cup and if the efforts of their top players can get them over the hump, then they will be the first Canadian team to win the Stanley Cup since the 1993 Montreal Canadiens over 30 years ago.
