The Pittsburgh Penguins have been dealing with trade rumors across their roster all summer, and now the team can add another player to the mix. This time it's veteran Evgeni Malkin, who has seen his name be discussed around the league.
Malkin has pushed back on the trade front, but if the Penguins were to start the new year slowly, things could come about. The veteran wants to win before he calls it a career, and a trade could help him do just that.
NHL writer Adam Gretz of Bleacher Report put together a few teams that could be strong landing spots for Malkin if he were to ever be traded. One of those was the two-time Stanley Cup champions, the Florida Panthers.
"If Malkin were to ever leave Pittsburgh, you can be sure it would only be to a team with a legitimate chance to win a Stanley Cup, and he specifically referenced the Brad Marchand-Florida Panthers situation as something that caught his attention.
The Panthers are an obvious contender, and with their roster as it is, he would be able to slide into a more complementary role where he would not have to be one of the focal points of the offense," wrote Gretz.
Last season, Malkin scored 16 goals and had 34 assists over 68 games played in the regular season. The veteran showed that even at his advanced age, he could still make a big impact on the ice for the Penguins.
Pittsburgh doesn't want to move him, but with the team looking to get younger, it could come about. There should be multiple teams looking to land his services if he were to actually become available on the trade front.
But for now, it seems that Malikn will stay with the only team that he has known in the NHL.
