How badly do the Penguins want Sidney Crosby to ask them to leave ? That’s the question on the table right now. We’ll agree that if Evgeni Malkin were to ask to leave, it couldn’t possibly have the effect of making Crosby want to stay in Pittsburgh more than ever. In other words? I don’t know if it would make a difference, but it can’t make the captain want to stay. And on that subject, the Russian was asked this morning about his intentions for the future. He began by saying that, ultimately, he could see himself staying in Pittsburgh, but he knows that this could be his last year (even if he’s still hesitating) in the NHL. He says he’s been thinking about Brad Marchand, who went on to win in Florida, and that his no-trade clause could be lifted.
Geno Malkin just spoke. Ultimately said he wants to stay here. This could be his last year, but would entertain one more year. Also said he’s thought about Brad Marchand winning a Cup in Florida, and said no-movement clause could conceivably be waived. Article to come.

So I repeat what I asked myself at the beginning of the text: how much would Malkin’s departure make Crosby want to lift the felts too? Because right now, everything’s looking good. The Penguins aren’t a point behind in the standings, Marc-André Fleury will be in town next week, etc. But what will it be like when the club inevitably gets off to an ugly start this season? When Crosby lines up to miss the playoffs again? These are big questions to ask, of course. spacer title=’Overtime’]- For Montreal CF fans,
