A former member of the Maple Leafs is now the owner of a major record in the KHL as Josh Leivo continues to wow the hockey world with his most productive season ever.

After tying the record for most goals in a KHL season earlier this week, ex-Toronto Maple Leaf Josh Leivo now stands alone at the top of the mountain.

Leivo, who plays for Ufa Salavat Yulayev, has scored his 49th goal to break the record for most goals in a single KHL season, surpassing Sergei Mozyakin, who had 48 goals in the 2016-17 KHL season.

This is Leivo's second season in the KHL after leaving the NHL as a free agent in 2023. His first season with Ufa Salavat Yulayev was a good one (15 G, 38 P, 40 GP), but came nowhere near the one he's having this year.

Leivo has been on fire all season long, and currently has 49 goals and 79 points in 61 games.

The Maple Leafs originally drafted Leivo in the third round, 86th overall, in 2011. He played with the organization until being traded to the Vancouver Canucks for Michael Carcone in December of 2018.

As noted by TSN, Leivo signed a two-year contract extension with Salavat Yulayev back in February in a sure sign of the team's confidence in his newly discovered offensive prowess.

Leivo's time with the Leafs didn't end the way either party wanted. Despite reports that he had requested a trade due to a lack of ice time, head coach Mike Babcock and GM Lou Lamoriello both denied knowing anything about.
