Matthew Knies is set to earn a massive new deal with the Maple Leafs, and now some experts have predicted it could be a mega-deal over seven seasons.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have some massive decisions to make this off-season, with the likes of Mitch Marner and John Tavares potentially on the way out, giving them plenty of cap space to make some additions to the team.
One player they may look to use that cap space on is rising star Matthew Knies, who had a career year in 2024/25, tallying a solid 29 goals and 58 points in 78 games played with the team, showing that he could be a star of the future for the organization.
As a restricted free agent, he's vulnerable to an offer sheet this summer, but at this point in time, he's done nothing but express his desire to remain in Toronto long-term as he believes he can be a massive piece of any potential success this team has moving forward.
It appears as though many agree with this sentiment, as The Athletic have now predicted Knies next contract, with the prediction from Joshua Kloke noting that it's likely to come in at seven-years, $8.4 million annually.
That may seem rich for someone that has just one full season under his belt in the NHL, but the organization believe he can replace Mitch Marner's production on this team given the chance, and if that is the case, this deal would end up being a solid one.
Signing the 23-year old has seemingly become a priority for Brad Treliving and the front office, and with a very bright future ahead of him, it appears to be the likely outcome that we see a lucrative long-term deal signed this off-season.
