Filip Hronek re-signs with Red Wings on three-year, $13.2 million deal

The Detroit Red Wings locked down one of their own before the start of the Labor Day holiday weekend. 

Detroit announced Friday that it has re-signed defenseman Filip Hronek via a three-year contract. While specifics of the agreement weren't confirmed by the Red Wings or the NHL website, The Associated Press (h/t ESPN) reports the deal carries an average annual value of $4.4 million and is worth $13.2 million. 

The 23-year-old was a restricted free agent. 

According to ESPN stats, Hronek led the rebuilding Red Wings for the 2020-21 season with 26 points, 24 assists, 11 power-play points and assists and an average ice time of 23:23 in 56 regular-season games. In 167 career NHL contests, all with the Red Wings, he's tallied 16 goals and 64 assists. 

Detroit drafted Hronek in the second round back in 2016. 

As noted by The AP, Hronek could feature for his native Czech Republic in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics now that NHL players are eligible to participate in that upcoming international tournament.
