Flames add Brent Seabrook to player development staff

The Calgary Flames announced Monday they have added former NHL defenseman Brent Seabrook to their player development staff.

The team says Seabrook will work with the Flames and their AHL affiliate, the Calgary Wranglers, in “honing their professional development.”

“We are pleased to welcome Brent Seabrook to our development team,” said Flames General Manager Craig Conroy in a team statement. “Our young players will benefit from his years of experience in the NHL and his championship pedigree.”

Seabrook, 40, spent his entire 15-year career with the Chicago Blackhawks, helping them win three Stanley Cup championships in 2010, 2013 and 2015. Through 1,114 regular-season games, he scored 103 goals and 361 assists for 464 points. He also played in 123 Stanley Cup Playoff games, scoring 20 goals and 39 assists for 59 points.

His best offensive season came in 2015-16, scoring a career-high 14 goals and 49 points.

“I am really looking forward to getting started with the group of young, talented players in the Flames organization,” said Seabrook. “The future of the organization is very bright and I am thankful to the Calgary Flames for allowing me to be a part it.”

Internationally, Seabrook represented Canada on a number of occasions. He played in two World Junior Championships, earning a silver medal in 2004 and winning a gold medal in 2005. Seabrook also earned an Olympic gold medal in 2010.
