The Calgary Flames have claimed center John Beecher off waivers from the Boston Bruins, the club announced Tuesday afternoon.
Beecher, 24, appeared in six games with the Bruins to begin the 2025-26 regular season, collecting one goal while averaging 10:24 of ice time.
A first-round pick (No. 30 overall) of the Bruins in the 2019 NHL Draft, Beecher made his NHL debut with the club in the 2023-24 season. The 6’3″ left-handed center has won 53 percent of the faceoffs he’s taken in the NHL.
Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman was the first to report the news of Beecher being claimed on Tuesday. Boston had placed Beecher on waivers the previous day with the intention of assigning him to the AHL’s Providence Bruins.
A product of Elmira, New York, Beecher played in the U.S. National Team Development Program before being drafted by the Bruins. He spent his first three seasons as a Bruins prospect at the University of Michigan, collecting 19 goals and 39 points in 81 games with the Wolverines. He also played for Team USA at the 2020 IIHF World Junior Championship, being held pointless in five games.
The Bruins signed Beecher to his entry-level contract at the conclusion of the 2021-22 season, and he spent the entirety of the 2022-23 campaign with Providence, collecting 23 points in 61 games. He subsequently skated in his first 52 NHL games with Boston in 2023-24, racking up seven goals and 10 points in the regular season; he added two points (one goal, one assist) in 12 playoff contests.
Beecher spent the entirety of the 2024-25 season in Boston, appearing in 78 games and collecting three goals and 11 points as the Bruins played to a bottom-10 finish. He subsequently signed a one-year, $900,000 contract with the Bruins for the 2025-26 season.
Through 136 career NHL games spent exclusively with the Bruins, Beecher has collected 11 goals and 22 points. He’ll be eligible to become a restricted free agent once again in the summer of 2026.
