Calgary Flames defenseman Kevin Bahl exited Tuesday’s game against the Dallas Stars and did not return after sustaining an upper-body injury in the first period.

Bahl, 25, left the game after colliding awkwardly with Stars defenseman Thomas Harley on just his second shift. The Flames ruled out the possibility of Bahl returning prior to the start of the second period.

In total, Bahl logged just 1:15 of ice time over his two shifts in Dallas. Sportsnet’s Pat Steinberg provided a video clip from Bahl’s final shift on his social media account on Tuesday.

Entering Tuesday’s action, Bahl had recorded four goals and 18 points to go along with a plus-2 rating and 47 penalty minutes in 75 games with the Flames this season. The 6’6″ lefty leads all Flames defensemen with 22:13 of total ice time per game.

The Flames originally acquired Bahl from the New Jersey Devils in the 2024 offseason as part of the Jacob Markstrom trade, in which Calgary also received a 2025 first-round pick (used to select Cole Reschny). After collecting 20 points in 73 games as a pending RFA with the Flames in the 2024-25 season, Bahl signed a new six-year, $5.35 million-AAV contract with the club in June.

The Arizona Coyotes originally selected Bahl in the second round (No. 55 overall) of the 2018 NHL Draft. The New Westminster, B.C. product spent his junior career with the OHL’s Ottawa 67’s but never played in a professional game in the Coyotes organization before being sent to New Jersey in 2019 as part of the Taylor Hall trade.

Through 297 career NHL games over parts of six seasons with the Devils and Flames, Bahl has collected 11 goals, 63 points, and 209 penalty minutes, to go along with a minus-5 rating. He also appeared in 11 playoff games with the Devils in 2023, recording one assist.
