It was a milestone night for Calgary Flames’ forward Nazem Kadri on Saturday night in a 3-2 overtime loss to the rival Edmonton Oilers. The former seventh overall pick from the 2009 NHL Draft tallied two assists in the losing effort, but it was his first-period helper on a goal by Yegor Sharangovich that helped the 34-year-old reach the 700-point plateau in his NHL career.

A relatively underrated career, Kadri made his NHL debut in 2009-10, playing just one game for the Toronto Maple Leafs. For nine seasons he played for the Maple Leafs and while it was tough ending to his stint in Toronto, the London, Ontario, native went on to play for the Colorado Avalanche where he won the Stanley Cup in 2021-22.

Following that season, Kadri was one of the more coveted free agents in the class and signed a contract with the Flames on Aug. 19, 2022. Since then, he’s been a major asset for the Flames amidst a tough run for the organization – scoring 83 goals and 187 points in 235 games over three seasons.

Hitting the 700-point milestone, Kadri becomes the 279th player all-time to reach that mark in the NHL, and with his second assist of the game he’s now tied with Rick Martin, Logan Couture and Mel Bridgman for 275th on the NHL all-time points list with 701.

As for his draft class, Kadri is the fifth player in the group to reach 700 points. He joins John Tavares (1,107), Matt Duchene (882), Ryan O’Reilly (814) and Victor Hedman (785) as the only members of the class to do so.

This season, Kadri has 30 goals and 58 points in 72 games for the Flames who are in the midst of a tough playoff race in the Western Conference wildcard standings. As for Kadri, he will do everything he can to push this team into a playoff spot in the final couple weeks of the season on route to his next milestone of 800 career points.
