On Monday, the Calgary Flames placed defenseman Daniil Miromanov on waivers, making him available to the other 31 teams in the National Hockey League.

If Miromanov clears waivers on Tuesday, he’s eligible to be assigned to the Flames’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Calgary Wranglers.

The Moscow native has appeared in just one of the Flames’ first six games of the season. He registered 17:49 of ice time against the Vegas Golden Knights on Oct. 14, which saw Calgary lose, 4-2. Miromanov didn’t score a point, while his plus/minus finished at zero.

The first week or so of the 2025-26 season is a little bit of a continuation from last season for the 28-year-old. He spent all of the 2024-25 campaign with the Flames, but played in just 44 games, as he was a healthy scratch for a lot of the year. He scored two goals and seven assists for nine points, with a +2 rating while averaging 17:41 of ice time.

It’s certainly tough for Miromanov to find a spot in the Flames’ top six. With names like Kevin Bahl, Rasmus Andersson and Mackenzie Weegar, along with the rise of prospect Zayne Parekh, there isn’t a lot of room for the Russian rearguard to be an everyday player.

Miromanov came to Calgary via trade at the deadline in March 2024. He was part of a deal that sent him and two draft picks to the Flames from the Golden Knights for Mikhail Vorobyev. Miromanov immediately signed a two-year contract extension, which carries a cap hit of $1.25 million through this season. He will be eligible to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.

In 94 NHL games, Miromanov has scored seven goals and 16 assists for 23 points. He’s also played in 100 AHL games, all with Vegas’ primary affiliate, the Henderson Silver Knights. There, he scored 21 goals and 49 assists for 70 points.

The Flames (1-5-0) are scheduled to host the Winnipeg Jets on Monday night. The Wranglers (1-2-1) are set to host the Coachella Valley Firebirds on Friday night.
