The Battle of Alberta delivered drama once again on Wednesday night, and this time the Calgary Flames had the last laugh. In a tight game before the Olympic break, the Flames edged past their rivals with a late push.

Calgary pulled off a 4-3 win over the slumping Edmonton Oilers, with Ryan Lomberg scoring the game-winning goal in the third period. The win was Calgary’s final game before the Olympic break, and it came with plenty of spice, both on the ice and after the final buzzer.

After the game, Lomberg spoke to the media and took a playful jab at Oilers goaltender Tristan Jarry.

“I do like Swiss cheese on my pizza,” Lomberg said with a grin, referring to his game-winning goal and poking fun at Jarry’s night between the pipes.

Meanwhile, rookie Matvei Gridin also impressed, scoring once and adding an assist, while Jonathan Huberdeau and Connor Zary chipped in with goals for the Flames.

Tristan Jarry’s Struggles in Edmonton Continue

Jarry allowed four goals on 25 shots in the loss, and it was another tough outing in what has been a difficult stretch for the Oilers’ netminder. The 30-year-old has now given up at least four goals in four of his last five games.

On the season, Jarry holds a 15-7-2 record with a 3.07 goals-against average and an .893 save percentage across 25 appearances. However, his record with the Oilers since the trade from the Pittsburgh Penguins has been disappointing. He has an .884 save percentage and a 3.23 goals-against average, along with a minus 0.86 goals saved above expected.

For the Flames, Lomberg’s goal was a fitting way to close out the pre-Olympic schedule. Meanwhile, the Oilers will welcome the break. After another frustrating loss, Edmonton will hope the time off helps reset both confidence and form.
