Cooley is in the final season of the two-year contract he signed with Calgary in July 2024. That deal has a cap hit of $775,000.
In his first bit of NHL experience in two years, Cooley has proved to be a solid backup to the young Dustin Wolf in Calgary. In 13 games thus far, Cooley has a record of 4-4-2, with a 2.40 goals-against average and a .914 save percentage. The 28-year-old’s last appearance was a solid 37-save performance in a 6-3 win over the Vegas Golden Knights on Dec. 20. It was Cooley’s first victory in four games.
Cooley spent his first season with the organization with the Calgary Wranglers, the Flames’ American Hockey League affiliate. In 46 games, he went 21-17-5, with a 2.94 GAA, a .905 SV% and three shutouts.
With Cooley signed for the next two seasons, the Flames have their tandem for the near future. Wolf signed a seven-year, $52.5 million contract extension this past September, with his deal lasting through the 2032-33 campaign.
The Los Gatos, Calif. native went undrafted coming out of the University of Denver, but managed to work his way through the minors, leading to his NHL debut with the San Jose Sharks during the 2023-24 campaign.
In 19 NHL games, Cooley has a record of 6-7-3, with a 3.18 GAA and a .898 SV%.
The Flames (17-18-4) sit seventh in the Pacific Division, three points back of a Wild Card spot.
