Flames/Kings game postponed by Los Angeles wildfires rescheduled to April 17

Back on Jan. 8, the National H0ckey League postponed the game between the Calgary Flames and the Los Angeles Kings at Crypto.com Arena. The move was made out of an abundance of caution due to the raging wildfires in the Los Angeles area, as the resources needed to host a major sporting event were better used elsewhere.

On Saturday night, the Kings announced that the game has been rescheduled to Apr. 17 at 8:30 p.m. MT. Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported the new date prior to that on his Headlines segment, and we previously speculated here at FlamesNation regarding rescheduling the game and concluded it would probably be on that date.

The game, which was originally supposed to be the last game of the first half of the Flames season (game 41), will now be the final game of the regular season (game 82).

The Flames were originally scheduled to conclude their regular season on Apr. 15. The trip to Los Angeles will be their fourth road game of April: they’ll be in Salt Lake City on Apr. 1, and head to California for games in San Jose on Apr. 7 and Anaheim on Apr. 9. They’ll play nine games total in April, but they’re scheduled every second day, so they have zero back-to-back sets or rough travel late in the year.

And that’s a good thing, because those games in April are shaping up to be pretty important. As of this writing, the Flames sit in the final Western Conference wildcard playoff spot with 51 points – one more than the Vancouver Canucks. All nine of their games in April are against Western Conference foes, with seven being against Pacific Division rivals. Suffice it to say: these games will likely have significant playoff implications.

If nothing else, friends, it’s shaping up to be a heck of a finish to a very surprising, entertaining Flames season. The rescheduling of that postponed game in Los Angeles ensures that the fun will last at least two days longer than we originally anticipated.
