Flyers Add Defenseman And Goalie In 2nd Round

The Philadelphia Flyers added a defenseman and a goalie with their two second round picks in the 2027 NHL draft.

With their first selection, 53rd overall, Brek Liske was added to the Flyers growing group of young defenseman.

From Everett Silvertips of the WHL, Liske finished with 7 goals & 17 assists in 52 games. His season took off in the second half and continued with a strong playoff performance – 3 goals & 14 assists in 18 games.

Liske is a mobile, puck moving defenseman who played mostly on the left side in Everett as a right shot. He’s not a flashy type defense, but some scouts ranked him as the most sound and complete two-way defenseman in the draft.

His explosiveness on the ice is what stands out the most. Its why many scouting reports projected him as a safe pick to become a Top-4 defenseman in the NHL.

The 6’2″ 190lbs right shot defenseman finished as the #45 ranked prospect according to Elite Prospects.

“All of his attributes are helped in part by his high motor. He’s not necessarily the fastest or most explosive player and he doesn’t come galloping up the ice like some of the higher touted D-Men in this draft class, but he works hard and keeps moving, and this often means he’s winning races and getting in the right positions. With their second selection, 62nd overall, goalie Martin Psohlavec was the pick.

From HC Energie Karlovy Vary U20 of the Czechia U20, Psohlavec finished with a 31-11-0 record with 1.92 GAA & 9.28%.

Psohlavec had an impressive U18 tournament for Czechia, which caught the Flyers eye. Finishing the tournament with 3-1-0 record with 1.68 GAA & .926%.

His game is still very raw. Scouts noting that his size (6’5″), at times, caused some limitations in his flexibility and his speed in the crease.

The 6’5″ 185lbs goaltender finished as the #81 ranked prospect according to McKeen Hockey.
