Flyers’ Cam York leaves game against Sabres with injury

York’s final shift came late in the second period, when Buffalo defenseman Rasmus Dahlin cross-checked Philadelphia forward Trevor Zegras into the boards, resulting in Dahlin receiving a five-minute major for boarding and a game misconduct. York was an active participant in the scrum that occured behind the Sabres’ net following the hit, though it’s unclear if he sustained the injury during the scrum or at another point in the game.

Fortunately, Zegras skated back to the bench after the hit and stayed in the game.

York has been a mainstay on the Flyers’ top defense pairing alongside Travis Sanheim. In 22 games played this season, the Anaheim, California native has a goal and 11 assists for 12 points, while averaging just over 24 minutes of ice time.

Selected 14th overall by the Flyers in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft from the U.S. National Under-18 Team, York would go on to play two productive seasons for the University of Michigan. In the 2020-21 season, his last with Michigan, he notched four goals and 16 assists for 20 points in just 24 games played.

After briefly joining the Flyers’ organization at the end of the 2020-21 season, York would spend the next couple of years splitting time between the NHL and AHL before becoming a full time NHLer in 2023-24. That season, he played all 82 games for Philadelphia and registered 10 goals and 20 assists for 30 points, while averaging about 22 and a half minutes of ice time. Last season, York tallied four goals and 13 assists for 17 points in 66 games played, while averaging just under 21 minutes.

The Flyers don’t play again until Sunday afternoon, when they’ll host the Colorado Avalanche.
