Flyers Shut Out By Mammoth, Clock Finally Hits Midnight

PHILADELPHIA – The clock has struck midnight on the Flyers season. Their chances of making the playoffs left as the visiting Utah Mammoth skated out of Philadelphia with a 3-0 win.

After a hard to watch first period, Utah would turn it on in the second period. Scoring twice in a span of six minutes to take a 2-0 lead.

Noah Cates holding the stick penalty 90-seconds into the period would put the Flyers behind the eight ball. The Mammoth scored 8-seconds into the power-play.

The Flyers would give up a transition goal next.

Travis Sanheim pinched into the Mammoth zone after Cates won the face-off. He would loose the puck and be beaten on the rush to the puck by Dylan Guenther, who set up Clayton Keller for the goal.

The first 40-minutes was like slow motion hockey for the Flyers. It looked like a team with multiple players on the trade front just trying to get through healthy in their last game before the deadline.

Dan Vladar did his best to keep the Flyers in the game. He finished the night with 21 saves, allowing only two goals. In 24 of his 36 starts this season, he has allowed two goals or less.

No offense was there tonight to help Vladar. It was the third time this season the Flyers have been shutout.

Some Flyers now await their fate as the trade deadline is tomorrow at 3:00pm. The biggest name is Rasmus Ristolainen whose market is red hot and should net the Flyers a great return if Danny Briere chooses to trade him.

Their could be other minor trades as well. Two minor moves, trading for Boris Katchouk and signing Garrett Wilson to an NHL deal, has given them the flexibility to move some bottom six players.

Nic Deslauriers name is one to watch as some young teams look for a physical presence over latter part of season.

The Flyers return to action on Saturday when they travel to Pittsburgh to take on the Penguins.
