Flyers Sign Garrett Wilson To One-Year Deal

The Philadelphia Flyers have upgraded a contract before the start of the 2026-27 season. Forward Garrett Wilson has earned a one-year, two-way deal worth $850K at the NHL level. He moves from an AHL contract to an NHL contract, allowing him to break camp with the Flyers. Wilson was not apart of Sunday’s waiver wire, indicating that he will indeed begin the season in the NHL.

Philadelphia is currently carrying 15 forwards on their NHL roster. Nikita Grebenkin, Alex Bump, and Denver Barkey are all candidates to be reassigned to the minor-leagues. Both Grebenkin and Barkey are nursing day-to-day injuries. Neither skated at Sunday’s practice. Of the three, Bump is the only one to record a point during the preseason – though preseason scoring did not mean anything for Jett Luchanko, who was assigned to the AHL after scoring three points in as many preseason games.

Wilson worked his way back to the NHL last season after playing in the minors from 2019 to 2026. He joined the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in 2020 and became the club’s captain in 2023. In six seasons in Lehigh Valley, Wilson has amassed an impressive 148 points and 789 penalty minutes in 341 games. Across a 72-game season, those marks work out to an average of 31 points and 167 penalty minutes each year.

Wilson appeared in three NHL games through March and April of the 2025-26 campaign, recording no scoring and one fight. Those performances brought his career totals up to 87 games, eight points, and 47 penalty minutes at the NHL level. He now seems poised to open the 2026-27 season as Philadelphia’s extra forward, providing an enforcer in the press box in case Philadelphia needs more grit. Wilson would challenge Grebenkin and Noel Acciari for minutes should the Flyers look for ways to slot him in.
