The Philadelphia Flyers have signed winger Tyson Foerster to an eight-year, approximately $56MM contract extension per Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman. The deal will kick into effect in the 2027-28 season, following the end of Foerster’s current two-year, $7.5MM contract.
Foerster has been a key contributor to the Flyers’ offense since making his first NHL appearance in 2022-23, when he tallied three goals and seven points in his first eight career games.
All signs point to continued growth for the 24-year-old, who now gives the Flyers long-term security on a right-shot winger. Selected 23rd overall in the 2020 draft, he owns back-to-back 20-goal seasons in 2023-24 and 2024-25 and now sits at 61 goals and 39 assists (100 points) through 195 career games, all with Philadelphia.
Foerster was primed for a big year in 2025-26, but unfortunately he suffered an injury in early December that kept him out until mid-April. Before the injury, Foerster was off to a great start, tallying ten goals in 21 games played, seven of which came at even strength.
Aside from his scoring production, Foerster has built himself a solid reputation as a dependable two-way presence who logs minutes in all situations and holds up against top competition.
The deal is a solid one for both parties. Foerster secures long-term security while the Flyers lock in a rising winger before his price climbs even further. Philadelphia will head into 2026-27 hoping he can build on his trajectory and take another step.
