The Los Angeles Kings have made another hire sure to spark controversy, as Tyler Wright is on his way to Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles Kings have already drawn controversy this summer by hiring Ken Holland as their new general manager despite the fact that the game has clearly passed him by.

Holland has already signed multiple contracts that could hurt the Kings in the long run, as has been his MO in the last several years.

Now, their long term futures could be further hindered by their latest hire. Holland has hired Tyler Wright, whom he worked with during his later years with the Detroit Red Wings (with disastrous results) and Edmonton Oilers, as the new Director of Player Personnel.

The news was 1st reported by Oilers analyst Jim Matheson:

Tyler Wright, the ex Oilers head of scouting and also player personnel, is now working for Kings as director of player personnel under his old Oiler boss Ken Holland.

For fans who believe that the NHL has too much of a «country club» vibe, this won't do anything to quell those feelings.

So far, the reception by Kings fans to this move had been near unanimous disapproval.

Tyler Wright oversaw multiple regrettable draft selections with Detroit and Edmonton

Wright's tenure in both Detroit and Edmonton isn't exactly looked back upon fondly by fans of both teams.

With Detroit as director of amateur scouting, Wright oversaw numerous opening round flops, including Dennis Cholowski, Filip Zadina, and Evgeny Svechnikov.

He also infamously convinced Detroit to select Zadina over Michigan product Quinn Hughes, a decision that set Detroit back years.

Now in his tenure with the Los Angeles Kings he will be tasked with drastically improving his track record.
