Former Nashville Predators head coach John Hynes will replace Dean Evason as the head coach of the Minnesota Wild according to sources.
John Hynes was hired in Nashville by David Poile on January 7, 2020 after Poile relieved Peter Laviolette of his coaching duties midway through the 2019-2020 season. Hynes came in and coached 248 games behind the Predators' bench before being let go on May 30, 2023 despite having one year left on his contract. Nashville then named Andrew Brunette the Predators' head coach to begin the 2023-24 season.
In his 248 games as the Predators' bench boss, Hynes went 134-96-18 for a .577 win percentage.
Barry Trotz had this to say about John Hynes at the end of last season before Hynes was let go:
We've had a good relationship. He's a very well prepared coach. He's trying to all the time to grow. We've had some discussions on systematic things and hockey things, and handling of certain players or situations. That's always great, good dialogue, and it tells me that you're not closed minded. You're still willing to grow....The game keeps changing, so you have to keep growing, and I think John has recognized that and that's why I think he's a good young coach."
Hynes will be the seventh coach in the Minnesota Wild franchise history. He preciously served as teh head coach for the New Jersey Devils from June 2015 until December 2019 before being hired by the Predators.
