Fourth Overall Pick Bowen Byram's Time in Buffalo May Be Over After Recent Report

Bowen Byram's future in Buffalo has been in question for the past few months, and now, the latest update suggests he may be traded from the Sabres.

The Buffalo Sabres showed promise again in 2024/25, but unfortunately they fell short of the Stanley Cup Playoffs again, and now, plenty of changes are expected over the summer of 2025.

One player that is seemingly on the way out is defenseman Bowen Byram, who was acquired in a deal with Colorado involving Casey Mittelstadt, and while he hasn't lit it up thus far in Buffalo, he's been showing steady improvement.

In 2024/25, Byram tallied a career high of 38 points while playing in all 82 games for the team, but as he is a restricted free agent this off-season and may not want to sign long-term in Buffalo, the expectation has been either for a trade or a team swooping in to offer sheet him.

Now, we have our clearest sign of his future yet, as an update from former NHLer Craig Rivet reveals that it's very likely Byram wants out this summer, showing signs that he's already moved on.

"Byram has packed up all his stuff and left Buffalo with an empty house"

Things could definitely change if the Sabres make some big moves to become more competitive in the summer, and while he's reportedly open to a long-term deal, his place in the lineup is a potential detriment to that.

Ultimately, Byram was a huge pickup for the Sabres, and at just 23-years old he has a very bright future ahead, and if the team doesn't get the sense that he'll re-sign, expect the team to explore a potential trade.
