Hurricanes netminder Frederik Andersen is back in the crease for Team Denmark – this time, at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, Italy. Andersen was announced as one of six players to have made Team Denmark’s preliminary Olympic roster on June 16.
Andersen, the first Danish-born goaltender to play in the NHL, played a major role in securing Denmark’s slot for the 2026 Olympic Games. In 2024, he played in all three of the country’s qualifying games. Denmark won all three of those games, and Andersen stopped a total of 60 out of 64 shots on goal. During the 2024-2025 season, in 22 games played, Andersen had a 13-8-1 record, with an .899 save percentage.

Andersen was originally drafted by the Hurricanes in 2010 (seventh round, 187th overall), but after failing to come to terms on an agreement, he re-entered the 2012 NHL Entry Draft and was selected by the Anaheim Ducks in the third round at 87th overall. In a decade-long NHL career, Andersen has played for the Ducks, the Toronto Maple Leafs, and the Carolina Hurricanes. His career record is 308-135-53, with a .915 save percentage.
After signing a one-year extension on May 3, Andersen told media about the Olympics, “And when we get to that next year, I’m sure I’ll be interested in going and it would be a very cool experience to get to represent my country and get to be part of that best-on-best tournament.”
