Harvard University was eliminated from the NCAA national men’s tournament on Friday afternoon. On Saturday evening’s edition of 32 Thoughts on Hockey Night in Canada, Elliotte Friedman provided a quick update on the status of Calgary Flames top prospect (and Harvard sophomore) Matt Coronato.

In short: the Flames really want to sign Coronato to an entry-level contract.
Here’s Friedman:
“Also with the Flames, Matthew Coronato, he was their first-round pick, 13th overall, in 2021. The full court press is on from the Flames. They have indicated very clearly that they want Coronato to join them. There still has to be a bit of conversation, the player has to make his choice, but there is no doubt the Flames have let Coronato know that they are ready for him to join them.”
An offensive standout in his draft year with the Chicago Steel of the USHL, Coronato has played two seasons at Harvard and emerged as a consistent goal-scorer at the collegiate level. He also represented the United States at both the actual World Juniors in August (and the version that was cancelled).
We’ll have more on the Coronato situation as it continues to unfold.
