Golden Knights goaltender Robin Lehner: Playing with Marc-Andre Fleury is a 'privilege'

It appears Robin Lehner is perfectly fine sharing the crease with Marc-Andre Fleury in Las Vegas.

The Golden Knights goaltender said Saturday that he's grown very close to Fleury and considers it an honor to play alongside him.

When the Golden Knights signed Lehner to a five-year deal in October, it was believed he was going to take over for Fleury as the starter. However, Lehner was sidelined for much of the season with an injury, so Fleury ended up being Vegas' No. 1 goaltender.

Fleury put together one of his best seasons in the NHL during the 2020-21 campaign and was named a Vezina Trophy finalist for the first time in his career. He went 26-10-0 with a 1.98 goals-against average and .928 save percentage.

Lehner was healthy entering the postseason, but the Golden Knights opted to stick with Fleury through the first two rounds of the playoffs against the Minnesota Wild and Colorado Avalanche.

Fleury also appeared in four games against the Montreal Canadiens before the Golden Knights switched to Lehner after the former Pittsburgh Penguins netminder struggled.

Fleury has one more season remaining on his contract and will become a restricted free agent after the 2021-22 campaign. The 36-year-old said during his exit interview that he hasn't given much thought about his future but hopes he can finish his career in Las Vegas.
