Golden Knights’ Nic Hague will miss Game 2 with lower-body injury
Sergei Belski-USA TODAY Sports

The first twist in the rematch Stanley Cup Playoff series between the Vegas Golden Knights and Dallas Stars has arrived.

After morning skate on Wednesday, Vegas head coach Bruce Cassidy announced that defenseman Nic Hague will miss Game 2 against the Stars and is listed as day to day with a lower-body injury.

Hague played 15:41 in the Game 1 win on Monday but appeared to be injured midway through the second period during a collision in the corner with Stars forward Evgenii Dadonov. Hague visibly limped off the ice and despite not leaving immediately, did not play for the final eight minutes of the third period.

He recorded 12 points (two goals, 10 assists) and finished minus-5 in 73 regular-season games for the Golden Knights. The 25-year-old has eight points (three goals, five assists) in 33 career Stanley Cup Playoff games.

Cassidy also confirmed that three-time Stanley Cup champion Alec Martinez will replace Hague in the lineup for Game 2.

Martinez played 55 games for Vegas this season, tallying 17 points (four goals, 13 assists). The 16-season veteran defender won his first Stanley Cup with the Los Angeles Kings in 2012 before winning again with LA in 2014 and with the Golden Knights in 2023.

Martinez had seven points (two goals, five assists) and finished with a plus-13 rating during the Golden Knights’ run to their first Stanley Cup last season. He has not played since April 18 against the Anaheim Ducks.

Vegas took a 1-0 series lead with a 4-3 win in Game 1 on Monday. They defeated the Stars in six games during the 2023 Western Conference Final. Game 2 is scheduled for 9:30 ET Wednesday, with Game 3 coming from Vegas on Saturday.
