Golden Knights recall Patera after injury to Hill
Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

On Thursday, the Vegas Golden Knights announced that they recalled goaltender Jiri Patera under emergency conditions.

This is obviously not an ideal situation for the Golden Knights, as they were forced to make this transaction due to Adin Hill suffering a lower-body injury, one which forced him to miss Thursday’s game versus the Tampa Bay Lightning. This recent injury marks one of several for Golden Knights goaltenders, as Logan Thompson and Laurent Brossoit are already on the injured reserve with lingering ailments.

The good news for the Golden Knights is that they were able to add some depth in the goaltending department at the trade deadline, as they picked up long-time Los Angeles Kings starting netminder Jonathan Quick from the Columbus Blue Jackets. The 37-year-old has looked solid through two games thus far as a Golden Knight, though his 3.50 goals against average (GAA) and .876 save percentage (SV%) in 31 games prior to being dealt prove that he isn’t an option they will want to be forced to rely on too heavily.

An update on how long Hill will be forced to miss has not yet been given, so for now, the Golden Knights will have to hope for the best. Until he, or one of the other two injured netminders are able to return, the 24-year-old Patera will remain with the Golden Knights in a backup role behind Quick. In 27 games with the Henderson Silver Knights of the American Hockey League this season, he owns a solid 2.66 GAA along with a .916 SV%.
