The Vegas Golden Knights have agreed terms on a contract extension with goaltender Adin Hill, the team announced Friday morning. The extension will keep the 28-year-old in Sin City for six years at an average annual value (AAV) of $6.25 million per season. Hill was projected to be the top goalie on the market this offseason.
Hill holds a 24-11-4 record this season, alongside a 2.53 goals-against average (GAA) and a .906 save percentage (SV%.) He also boasts four shutouts, which is tied for second-best in the NHL.
The Golden Knights acquired Hill from the San Jose Sharks for a fourth-round pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft during the 2022 offseason.
Hill’s $6.25 million AAV ranks him at 11th in the league among active goaltenders this season, and given his performance thus far this season, it isn’t a bad bargain. The Golden Knights now know they have an answer in net for the next six seasons.
Prior to the extension, Vegas didn’t have a goaltender under contract for next season but now has one for the foreseeable future. The Golden Knights have been through a mix of goaltenders in the past with Robin Lehner, Marc-André Fleury, and Logan Thompson, but finally found their long-term answer in Hill.
Hill, who turns 29 in May, will be 35 years old at the end of this contract.
Throughout Hill’s career, he has never had a contract longer than two years (other than his entry-level contract.) With this extension, he finally has stability for the first time in his career. It’s deserving, too, and not just a feel-good story as he has been the Golden Knights’ backbone this season.
He was also that during the 2023 Stanley Cup playoff run, when he posted a 2.17 GAA and a .932 SV%, helping lead the “Misfits” to their first Stanley Cup in franchise history.
Hill has proved himself many times in his NHL career and has finally been rewarded with a payday and, most importantly, some security.
