The Vegas Golden Knights are retaining some of their defensive depth from the last few years. The Golden Knights announced they’ve re-signed defenseman Lukas Cormier to a one-year contract for the 2026-27 season.
Cormier, 24, was drafted 68th overall by the Golden Knights in the 2020 NHL Draft. A few years later, he put together an exceptional year for the QMJHL’s Charlottetown Islanders, scoring 33 goals and 81 points in 62 games with a +40 rating, with an additional eight goals and 21 points in 15 postseason contests.
After that season, Cormier joined the professional ranks. He had a decent showing with the AHL’s Henderson Silver Knights, scoring 10 goals and 35 points in 62 games with a -12 rating. It became apparent relatively early that Cormier was an offense-only defenseman. The following year, despite debuting with the Golden Knights, he finished with a disastrous -30 rating in 58 AHL games.
Injuries limited Cormier in the 2024-25 campaign. Not beginning his season until March 1, he finished with nine assists in 19 games with a -9 rating.
Fortunately, Cormier rebounded well in the 2025-26 season. Putting together his best professional season to date, Cormier finished with eight goals and 47 points in 49 games with a +2 rating. It’s likely that Cormier will again spend much of the 2026-27 campaign with the Silver Knights, but could be called upon as an injury replacement, given that he appears to be healthy.
