The Golden Knights could soon be on the verge of trading original Misfit William Karlsson, who has played in Vegas since their inception into the NHL in 2017.
The Vegas Golden Knights have been known to operate in a ruthless fashion, doing whatever is necessary to stay in contention for the Stanley Cup.
Sometimes, it comes at the expense of beloved players on the team. Players like Marc-Andre Fleury and Reilly Smith were traded (Smith later returned) despite being original Misfits who played in the Golden Knights' inaugural year of 2017-18, while they allegedly low-balled another original Misfit in Jonathan Marchessault, who signed with the Nashville Predators last summer.
Speaking of original Misfits, the Golden Knights could soon trade William Karlsson, another player who was with the original Vegas roster in 2017.
Vegas is reportedly looking to clear salary cap space to make a run at a major name in the summer, perhaps that of current Toronto Maple Leafs forward and pending UFA Mitch Marner, and Karlsson could be a cap casualty.
Seems like Vegas would like to clear some cap space. And William Karlsson could be that man who will be traded. W. Karlsson is a legit 2C with a great contract.
He's under contract for another 2 years with an AAV (average annual value) of $5.9 million.
Karlsson appeared in only 53 games this year with Vegas and had 29 points (9G, 20A). He then had 6 points (3G, 3A) in 11 postseason games, helping Vegas beat the Minnesota Wild in the WCQF before falling to the Edmonton Oilers in the WCSF.
If this is the end of the road for Karlsson with Vegas, he'll be able to look back with pride at his career in Sin City and what he and his teammates accomplished.
