The No. 3/4 Minnesota Golden Gophers men's hockey team tied Alaska Anchorage on Friday night, as the final score was 1-1 at 3M Arena at Mariucci in Minneapolis.
The Gophers' lone goal came from Beckett Hendrickson, as it tied up the game in the second period after the Nanooks went up 1-0 in the first period.
Minnesota's record this season moves to 12-2-1 overall and Alaska Anchorage is now 4-6-3 after Friday night's tie.
The Gophers didn't commit a penalty the entire game, the first time they've done so since last season against Boston University on March 30.
It also is the fourth time Minnesota has been held to one goal in a game, as the Golden Gophers are 1-2-1 in those contests.
Ryan Chesley hit the post twice in the extra session as Minnesota controlled the puck for nearly the whole five minutes of overtime.
The Nanooks scored once in three shootout attempts while they stopped the Gophers' shots to win the shootout.
"There were a lot of good things, the only thing bad was we didn't score another goal; that was it," Minnesota head coach Bob Motzko said in a statement following the outcome.
"We've been in a handful of these games where we have to manufacture a goal. We missed the net a handful of times when our guys were paying the price to get there. You have to make the other goalie work sometimes and we let him off the hook a little bit."
Both goaltenders were impressive, as Minnesota's Airey Nathan saved 19 shots and Alaska Anchorage's Nicholas Grabko made 36 saves in the 65 minutes on the ice.
The Gophers outshot the Nanooks 37-20 while the Nanooks made 26 blocks on defense to Minnesota's seven.
Both teams will wrap up the series on Saturday at 5 p.m. at 3M Arena at Mariucci in Minneapolis.
