It was a good week for goalies in the LA Kings system. Erik Portillo secured the win in his NHL debut and Hampton Slukysnky took home another weekly award.

Slukynsky was named NCHC Rookie of the Week for the second time in three weeks. The 19-year-old has been excellent to start the season for Western Michigan University (NCAA), posting a record of 3-2-1 with a 1.66 GAA and a .947 save percentage. Slukysnky’s strong season from USHL last year has carried over to the NCAA. Usually, it takes a player time to adjust to a new level, but that hasn’t been the case for the Minnesota product.

Slukysnky is second in save percentage and ninth in goals against average in the NCAA. Watching him play reminds me of Jonathan Quick with his flexibility. Big day for Slukysnky winning NCHC Rookie of the Week on top of making USA’s preliminary roster for World Juniors.
