Harkins Clears Waivers, Likely Headed to Wilkes-Barre
Scott Galvin-USA TODAY Sports

Pittsburgh Penguins winger Jansen Harkins has cleared waivers and is expected to be assigned to the team’s American Hockey League affiliate in Wilkes-Barre.

Although the team has not announced its plans for Harkins — they are not compelled to send him to the AHL — he did not practice with the Penguins Friday, so they likely will recall a forward from Wilkes-Barre to take the spot Harkins had been filling on the major-league roster.

Harkins, who was acquired from Winnipeg on waivers Oct. 2, does not have a point in four games with the Penguins, and recorded a minus-1 plus-minus rating while averaging a team-low nine minutes, 28 seconds of ice time.

He was used primarily at right wing on the third line and was credited with one shot block, four shots on goal and four hits, good for a share of a five-way tie for fifth place on the team.
